Earth Day 2018 and Annual Native Plant Sale

Our Annual Earth Day Volunteer day and Native Plant Sale on April 21 was a big success! The Sun Shone Too!

The Friends of Malcolmson thank all the volunteers who came out to plant wildflowers, shrubs and trees, helped mulch and cleanup gardens.

Special thanks to Landcare Niagara for donating 450 pollinator plants and bringing volunteers to help plant them in our prairie. When you walk in the park this summer, look for milkweeds, brown eyed susans, New England asters and others that are food and habitat for butterflies, bees and birds.

A big thanks to the Scout groups who joined us and worked hard cleaning up and mulching.

A SPECIAL SASSAFRAS TREE WAS PLANTED AT THE FRONT OF THE PARK BY CITY COUNCILLORS, OUR MPP AND OUR FEDERAL REP, JOINED BY THE SCOUTS. THE SASSAFRAS IS A RARE CAROLINIAN TREE NOT COMMONLY SEEN IN ONTARIO BECAUSE OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES.
