TD Friends of the Environment Grant Supports Prairie Planting
The prairie area at Malcolmson Eco-Park is a unique example of a vanishing southern Ontario ecosystem. With the help of a grant from TD Friends of the environment for 2015, and some energetic volunteers, a section of the prairie has been cleared of invasive poplars and replanted with prairie grasses and wildflowers.
If you walk there in late July or August, there will be bees, butterflies and birds feeding from the many blooms and seedheads!
TD Friends of the Environment Grant Replants Forest Area
Thanks to the grant from TD Friends of the Environment for 2015, the southeast forest area was replanted on Earth Day with Carolinian shrubs and trees. A drainage project was done in this area in 2014 to remove standing water, and non-native trees were cut. The new trees and shrubs will now be able to establish, and help enhance this remnant of Carolinian forest within the City.
The Friends of Malcolmson Eco-Park sincerely thank TD Friends of the Environment for their grant support of $3000 for these worthwhile projects.
